Weakest Link: Showdowns!

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Before we dive into some intense 1v1 card comparisons, I’d like to invite everyone to draft at my place tonight (Thursday, ~6:30pm) to playtest our newly refined Cube :)

Despite making many gold cuts already, we still have a number of difficult decisions to make. Remember this is a group effort to try and create the most exciting draft experience possible — there is always room for changes in the future!

All That’s Gold Don’t Glitter…

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

The Sakura-Tribe elders have spoken and hereby sentence the following cards to solitary confinement:

show pick | toggle

Blue/White Weakest Links

Mistmeadow Witch;Plumeveil;Windreaver

Despair not, however, as these (and subsequent) dismissed cards will be waiting in the wings to fight another day. However this now makes Blue/White the first color combo to reach the targeted 6 card selection. I have made a few executive decisions in cutting these other multi-color mucks as well:

show pick | toggle

Other Weak Links

Murderous Redcap;Rakdos Guildmage;Tattermunge Maniac;Creakwood Liege

- Murderous Redcap – Would much rather have Nekrataal or Flametongue Kavu.
- Rakdos Guildmage – I don’t like the idea of discarding cards in black/red, and the 2/1 haster just seems a tad overpriced.
- Tattermunge Maniac – Again, another slot where I could instead drop a Kird Ape, Grim Lavamancer, Birds of Paradise, Noble Hierarch, Scute Mob…just too much competition for this gimped 2/1.
- Creakwood Liege – I’ve just seen this guy go around the block too many times to really take him seriously anymore.

Think I made some bad calls? Check out Our Cube first, and let me know if you still think otherwise. I am wholly accepting recommendations for other gold removals too. Once we reach that 6-card target for each color combo, I’ll remove the actual cards from our cube and then…oh…I suppose we’ll have to playtest :)

Thanks for all your input!

Announcing our “Weakest Link” Poll Series

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I have just completed the Cube page with our most current card list. Upon further analysis and discussion, we have decided to remove a number of multi-color cards from The Cube to improve overall pick quality, and to not as strongly force individuals to play multicolor decks. Personally, I’ve more often than not found myself playing three color decks, and would very much like to see single-color archetypes become more viable in our Cube.

That being said, I am kicking off our “Weakest Link” poll series with a focus on our current pool of Blue/White multicolor cards. In an effort to reduce gold cards to six per two-color combination, please vote below on which three cards you would like to see removed from The Cube. In making your selection, do not just vote on the cards that you dislike the most — but rather, keep in mind the particular archetype that you would like Blue/White cards to strengthen in The Cube. Also if you think we missed a strong Blue/White card, please Make a Suggestion!

Results will be tallied after two days, and the top voted cards will be announced and henceforth banished from all Cube drafts. Vote now!!

Note: this poll is now closed. See subsequent post for results.
